Farewell to a Friend

Sean Heline
Sean Heline

I have some good news and some sad news to report. The good news is that our radio pal Sean Heline has found a great new job in Michigan and he and his lovely bride Lynn will be making a new home together in the northern climes. The sad news is that Sean will no longer be joining us to make radio fun every month as a regular cast member. Sean has been with the show from almost the beginning of our little radio experiment (He made his first appearance on our second episode to be precise) and it’s going to be hard to imagine the show without him.

He was the voice of Hugh Belmont, Harlow Wilcox, Howard Fine and, of course, Hoppy Hopper. He is truly a class act. When you need a leading man, you get Sean Heline. When you need a hero with a heart of gold, you get Sean Heline. When you need someone with a comic wit, you get Sean Heline. If you need a good friend, onstage and off, you hope that Sean Heline walks into your life.

Thank you and good luck, Sean. Speaking for the cast and crew, I think it’s safe to say you will be greatly missed. We wish you and Lynn and your family only the best. Happy trails, my friend!

The End is Near

Abe Defends Arlo
Abe (Sean Heline) tries to rally behind Arlo (Tom Cherry), but Mr. Peabody (Jeff Shull) is not impressed.

We had our last rehearsal tonight and tomorrow we wrap up One Funky Halloween. Bittersweet, my friends, bittersweet.

One Funky Halloween

Monsters!

It’s Halloween in Waffleville and Arlo Wazzo has opened his home to some truly disturbed individuals. Fortunately for him, they are his friends! However, when some clean Halloween fun conjures up some guests from the afterlife, pumpkin bowling is forgotten and a frightful farce ensues! It’s a night full of tricks and treats as psychics, werewolf dispatchers, historical figures, and a fanboy fry cook unite for One Funky Halloween!

Based on characters from the local comic strip/public access sitcom Those Funky Idiots by Tom Cherry, One Funky Halloween brings Arlo Wazzo and the other citizens of Waffleville to the stage for an original comedy written and directed by Sean Orlosky. The talented cast includes Gabe Carpenter, Sean Heline, Sean Orlosky, Bob Green, Rita Wessel, Wendy Carpenter, Jeff Shull, Jeff Rapkin, and Tom Cherry.

Historical Farmland USA is proud to present One Funky Halloween at the Farmland Community Center (100 N. Main St, Farmland, Indiana) on October 23rd, 24th, and 30th. These performances include dinner and dessert. The dinner portion of the evening begins at 6:30 pm with the show following at 7:00 pm. Tickets for the dinner and the show are $20.00 (Seniors: $18.00). Tickets for the show are $10.00.

For tickets and other information please call (765) 468-7631.

Thursday

Thursday was a good day. I took the day off from Touchy Feely Fotos to hang out in Farmland with some wonderful people (You know, Sean Orlosky, Wendy Carpenter, Sean Heline, Bob Green, Missy Donahue, and Judy and Jerry Cole). We also performed a special episode of Tom Cherry’s Old Time Radio Show for a bus tour experiencing the wonders of Farmland. They were a fine audience, too! It was a fun show and we earned some good money for the Farmland Community Center. Later that same day, I auditioned for Indiana Public Radio’s Christmas production of The Gift of the Magi and yesterday I found out I’ll be part of the cast so Friday was a good day, too.

Just wanted to take a moment to reflect on another great episode of Tom Cherry’s Old Time Radio Show from this past Saturday. When a great audience meets a great cast, you can feel the magic in the air! Plus we learned about “roachkickers” when we played It Pays to be Ignorant! Thanks again to Sean Orlosky, Missy Donahue, Sean Heline, Bob Green, Katy Wolfe, Angela Gick, Judy and Jerry Cole, and our special guests, Lauren Donahue and Dana Jones for being part of a truly memorable show! Indy Radio

Tom Cherry's Old Time Radio Show

Tom Cherry's Old Time Radio Show hit the road on March 31 and performed in Foundation Hall at the Marquette Retirement Community in Indianapolis! In front of a rather sizable crowd (Nearly a hundred or so), we recreated a classic script from Fibber McGee and Molly and then we introduced our attentive audience to The Happy Hoppy Hopper Show and The Mayor of Farmland. Jerry and Judy Cole sang a bit and then we had one of our best contestants on It Pays to Be Ignorant basically steal the show away from us (Thank you, Ethel Booth, for allowing us to take it back!). It was a great experience and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. I know I certainly did!

Thanks to Marilyn Martin and Casey Wente for their kindness and care as they opened their wonderful facility to us! And more thanks to our wonderful cast and crew (Wendy Carpenter, Sean Heline, Gabe Carpenter, Bob Green, Katy Wolfe, Jerry and Judy Cole, and Lindsey Cox) for creating another hour of pure radio fun! They truly are the best, folks, and it's always an honor to be in their company!

Hopefully we'll have more opportunities to take the show on the road in the near future! I'm already looking forward to it!
