Blast from the Past: Pulp Fixation (1996?)

Pulp Fixation

Back in the day when Those Funky Idiots was a public access show in Muncie, Indiana, I always submitted the master tape for our latest episode in a plastic VCR tape container. Occassionally I would make "poster art" for an episode and slip the drawing into the container's plastic sleeve. This particular drawing was for the second part of our Pulp Fiction homage two parter which we called "Pulp Fixation". Instead of Mia Wallace, that's Nia Wally (Played by the former Meisa Beatty. Now she's Meisa Cope) in the drawing. I won't go into the whole plot, but at one point Vinnie Tuscany (Tim Richardson) bumps into Nia Wally and they enter a dancing contest which leads into a parody of the famous Twist dance scene from the movie. Instead of Jack Rabbit Slims, we filmed our dance in the middle of Gibson's Skating Rink. It turned out great!

Two of my old characters appear to be discussing something. As usual, Jerky seems agitated.

Yesterday's Comic Haul (7/13/13)

ElepHaunt

Astro City #2

Dial H #14

The Walking Dead #112

12 Polypropylene Comic Book Bags

Purchased at Bob's Comic Castle. Total amount: $12 and change

Notes- Dial H is winding down. I believe the next issue is the last. I jumped onto the title a little too late, but I have enjoyed everything I read so far. I'll definitely keep an eye out for more of China Mieville's work in the future...This haul's winner? The Walking Dead beats out Astro City by a zombie nose.

ElepHaunt was created by China Mieville and Alberto Ponticello.

Watusi the Talking Dog #28

It's always a thrill when you hear Dale Martin has finished a new comic book and then to find a copy in your very own mailbox turns that thrill into joy. Dale's work is always fun and inspiring and this issue is no exception. Do yourself a favor and check out some Watusi! Believe me, you'll be glad that you did!

Girl Skipping Jump Rope

Girl Skipping Jumprope

When you keep a sketchbook or two or three, sometimes you find yourself drawing a particular character over and over for some odd reason. This girl certainly qualifies as a constant figure that lurks about my sketches. I have no clue who she is or what her name is. I think she would fit in as a cast member for my elementary school comic strip, Lemonade's Last Stand. Who knows? In the meantime, she seems pretty content jumping rope.

A Story: 50 Words or Less

So I turned to Mimi and said "Let's make magic together!" Mimi said nothing because she's a rabbit and can't talk. Her pink eyes did flash disdain. She hated being in my hat. The smell of my hair and sweaty brow disgust her, but the show must go on!

Character Spotlight: Igor

LittleIgor

You know, if I was a more active cartoonist, Igor would be running around in a couple comic strips. He would be Baby Savage's best friend in Oh! Those Savages and one of the pupils in my slacker-teaches-an-elementary-class comic, Lemonade's Last Stand. Sadly, as any regular reader knows, my comic stripping has been rather lacking for the last few years. However, Igor has appeared in a couple Those Funky Idiots strips in the past so at least he had some slight exposure.

So who is Igor? Igor is a wise ass. He's slightly cooler than your average nine year-old. He's the type of kid that unnerves grown ups for some odd reason. Maybe because he's a lot smarter than his grades may lead you to believe and this particular boy has a very crafty mind. He could be a star in the making! Only time will tell.

The Dollar Bill Panel of the Month: July 2013

Dollar Bill is in the Closet

Of course, only a Lunatik would have Dollar Bill as a roommate! Bill and his pal Ledge snoop around in this panel from The Defenders #73 (July 1979). Written by Ed Hannigan, Herb Trimpe is the penciler, Mike Esposito is the inker, Ben Sean is the colorist, Clem Robins is the letterer, and the editors are Allen Milgrom and Jim Shooter (Is it me or does Ledge resemble Shooter?). Marvel Comics.

Dollar Bill and Ledge were created by David Anthony Kraft and Keith Giffen.
