Thursday

Thursday was a good day. I took the day off from Touchy Feely Fotos to hang out in Farmland with some wonderful people (You know, Sean Orlosky, Wendy Carpenter, Sean Heline, Bob Green, Missy Donahue, and Judy and Jerry Cole). We also performed a special episode of Tom Cherry’s Old Time Radio Show for a bus tour experiencing the wonders of Farmland. They were a fine audience, too! It was a fun show and we earned some good money for the Farmland Community Center. Later that same day, I auditioned for Indiana Public Radio’s Christmas production of The Gift of the Magi and yesterday I found out I’ll be part of the cast so Friday was a good day, too.

Those Thrilling Days of Yesteryear

The Cast of Tom Cherry's Old Time Radio Show (5/18/14)

The Radio Gang (Front row (L-r): Missy Donahue, Wendy Carpenter, Angela Gick, Judy Cole, and Katy Wolfe. Back row (L-r): Jeff Shull, Gabe Carpenter, Bob Green, Me (Proof I have a face for radio!), and Jerry Cole)

Recently Tom Cherry's Old Time Radio Show expanded a bit in prime time and offered a buffet of desserts for a series of shows that ran on the weekends from Mother's Day to May 25. Despite having a variety of fun scripts performed by the most talented cast around (The best radio cast since Mercury Theatre by gum!), the shows didn't draw much of a crowd. Sadly it was a bust audience wise, but we all certainly had a grand time on stage and I continue to be blessed by being in the company of such remarkable folks who come together every now and then to play radio in Farmland. Thanks again to all those brave souls who ventured out to see us (Next time bring all of your friends! Please!), to the wonderful cooks and bakers who made our delicious treats, and most of all to my dear friends in the radio gang who inspire me with their talent and their kindness!

And remember a new episode of Tom Cherry's Old Time Radio Show debuts every fourth Saturday of the month at the Farmland Center @ 3:00pm! Hope to see you on the radio!

At This Moment

I’m pet sitting for my friends, Jerry and Judy, so the weight of responsibilty falls on my meager shoulders again. Must keep the animals alive! I'm such a weak man.

I'm eating a piece of colby jack cheese.

S.P.A.C.E. is this weekend. I’m sorry I won’t be able to attend this year. Still frustrated with myself for not writing about my last S.P.A.C.E. experience a couple years back. One of these days I’ll get my act together!

Got tickets to see Cabaret at the Muncie Civic next Saturday. Looking forward to seeing my friend, Rita Wessel, back on the big stage again!

Might see a movie today. Haven’t braved a multiplex in a couple years.

Mad Men returns tonight. Game of Thrones is on, too. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to see Games. Sigh.

Got scripts to write. Radio show in a couple weeks. We'll be performing an episode of Dragnet. At least, I have one script I don't have to worry about! Thanks, genericradio.com!

Have I mentioned I'm a weak man?

Indy Radio

Tom Cherry's Old Time Radio Show

Tom Cherry's Old Time Radio Show hit the road on March 31 and performed in Foundation Hall at the Marquette Retirement Community in Indianapolis! In front of a rather sizable crowd (Nearly a hundred or so), we recreated a classic script from Fibber McGee and Molly and then we introduced our attentive audience to The Happy Hoppy Hopper Show and The Mayor of Farmland. Jerry and Judy Cole sang a bit and then we had one of our best contestants on It Pays to Be Ignorant basically steal the show away from us (Thank you, Ethel Booth, for allowing us to take it back!). It was a great experience and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. I know I certainly did!

Thanks to Marilyn Martin and Casey Wente for their kindness and care as they opened their wonderful facility to us! And more thanks to our wonderful cast and crew (Wendy Carpenter, Sean Heline, Gabe Carpenter, Bob Green, Katy Wolfe, Jerry and Judy Cole, and Lindsey Cox) for creating another hour of pure radio fun! They truly are the best, folks, and it's always an honor to be in their company!

Hopefully we'll have more opportunities to take the show on the road in the near future! I'm already looking forward to it!

A Happy Ending

Swann Song

Swann Song wrapped up its run at the Farmland Center this past weekend and I’m happy to report it was a major success! I just want to take a moment to thank the amazing cast who took my simple words and used them to create such rich, believable characters on stage. Thank you, Judy Cole, Rita Wessel, Jerry Cole, Hannah Kirkpatrick, Sean Orlosky, Bob Green, Judy Oakerson, Geoff Witt, and Kevin Cole! They all gave substance and heart to the show night after night. They are truly the best! More thanks to Darrin Murrell for taking a chance on a neophyte, Stevie Hahn for all his technical support, and Judy and Jerry Cole for being such great collaborators and for providing the Sunday dinners. Finally, a big thank you for everyone who attended Swann Song and made it such a success! You all have made me so proud and very happy. Thank you!
