Black Band Arlo

Black Band Arlo

It's always nice to see Arlo Wazzo travel to other people's comic strips. Even if it's for a sad occasion.

Thanks again to my cartoonist pal, Dale Martin, for the invitation!

Draw Crabby Day

Draw Crabby Day

Sadly summer is coming to a close so it's time to get Crabby! Or, better yet, it's time to draw Crabby! Yes, friends, I'm proud to announce September 19, 2015 is "Draw Crabby Day"! A recurring cast member of Mutts, a delightful and charming comic strip by Patrick McDonnell, Crabby is a crusty crustacean who isn't afraid to be cranky! Known for his salty tales and his salty language ("!@$#!!"), Crabby doesn't mind if you don't like him, but he gets mighty upset if you don't draw him! So whip out that pen, sharpen that pencil, and draw Crabby before he gets really mad! Happy "Draw Crabby Day", everyone!

Dale Martin brings Crabby and Watusi the Talking Dog together!

Postmaster Keith O'Brien finds time to celebrate "Talk Like A Pirate Day" and "Draw Crabby Day"!

Cartoonist Tom Stazer draws a salty Crabby!

Artsy Dude Jim Fields draws up a smokin' Crabby!

Ivan Martin knows who isn't coming to dinner!

Crabby was created by Patrick McDonnell.

Dale Martin continues to impress every week with Watusi the Talking Dog!

Sadly Tony Reynolds is wrapping things up for Ryan's Dad.

Never heard of Doug Michel's Monkey Squad One? Check it out now!

My old pal John Oak Dalton is still blogging!

Dime Bag Comics

Recently cartoonist extraordinaire Dale Martin asked me to participate in a comic book anthology he was putting together that would benefit the Percolator Artspace and the Social Service League of Lawrence in Lawrence, Kansas and I said "YES!". Of course that was a few weeks ago and yesterday I received my contributor copies and I was very pleased! Dime Bag Comics is a fun book with some cool comics by some super cartoonists (Like Keith O'Brien and J.B. Winter, for example)! I'm honored to be part of such a worthy project!

My Comic Book Collection: Close to Home #2

Dear Bongo

It was a pleasant surprise leafing through Sergio Aragones Funnies #12 and finding a letter by my friend (and super cartoonist) Dale Martin on the letter page! Dale's letter shared my exact feelings upon finding out that SAF was ending its run. How fitting that they published Dale's missive in the last issue. Fortunately, it sounds like Sergio Aragones Funnies will return in the near future at another publisher. Something for me and Dale to look forward to, I'm sure!

It Came From My Mailbox!: Happiness

Apples and Oranges

This past week my mailbox kept giving me envelopes filled with some amazing work! Last Friday (September 27, of course) I was happy to find the latest digest from the amazing Pam Bliss, Apples and Oranges! Collecting some stories featuring her "Those Kids!" characters, reading A&O was like touching base with some old friends.

The Amazing CynicalMan #29

The fun continued the next day when I received an unexpected bundle of new issues of The Amazing Cynicalman from the king of the small press, Matt Feazell! Four issues containing some comic gold!

Watusi the Talking Dog #29

And finally yesterday the latest issue of Watusi the Talking Dog arrived. Receiving a comic book created by Dale Martin is always a wonderful thing and this issue continued Dale's incredible winning streak! As much as I grumble about my life from time to time, finding these treasures in my humble mailbox proves sometimes it can be a wonderful life!

Draw a Powerpuff Girl Day

Buttercup

It's time to honor those mighty protectors of Townsville, The Powerpuff Girls! Created by Craig McCracken, the girls' show debuted on the Cartoon Network in 1998! Besides championing the forces of good, the Powerpuff Girls (Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup) have successful conquered the worlds of film, TV, comic books, video games, and all forms of merchandising! Today we celebrate these plucky little superheroines with "Draw a Powerpuff Girl Day"! Up above is a drawing of my favorite Powerpuff, Buttercup!

Dale Martin has fuzzy feelings for the girls in his drawing!

Keith O'Brien has something in the cards for the girls in his drawing!

Mike Sullivan put a marvelous spin on the girls in his drawing!

Sean Smart shows the underbelly of a Powerpuff Girl in his drawing!

Watusi the Talking Dog #28

It's always a thrill when you hear Dale Martin has finished a new comic book and then to find a copy in your very own mailbox turns that thrill into joy. Dale's work is always fun and inspiring and this issue is no exception. Do yourself a favor and check out some Watusi! Believe me, you'll be glad that you did!

Draw Mr. Mind Day

The Big Green Cheese

Beware, puny humans! Today is dedicated to one of the greatest supervillains of all time, Mr. Mind! Yes, it's "Draw Mr. Mind Day"! Dismiss him as a cartoon worm at your own peril for this malicious invertebrate almost ruled the world! Just ask Captain Marvel (You know, the Big Red Cheese himself? Accept no other substitutes)! He'll tell you about the vile fiend and his deadly Monster Society of Evil! Created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck for Fawcett Comics, Mr. Mind survives in various forms today and still hungers to be the conqueror worm! DRAW HIM OR FACE HIS WRATH!

As for my contribution, HOLY MOLEY! Mr. Mind has become the Big Green Cheese!

Elsewhere, the marvelous Dale Martin unearths Mr. Mind's favorite rock group!

Meanwhile, Postmaster Keith O'Brien finds Mr. Mind beyond the legal limit!

This just in! Mr. Mind has issued a statement according to his spokesman, the amazing Ivan Martin!

Hey, look! Mike Sullivan just gave Mr. Mind his wings!

Mr. Mind was created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck. Captain Marvel was created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck.

Paneling

Paneling

Here's a panel I sketched at work which will eventually become part of a comic strip at some point in time. Hopefully, sooner than later. And, yes, it involves Arlo Wazzo going on another bad date. I know I go to that well a great deal, but it's a rather deep well!

Also Self Publisher Magazine reviews Double Dip, a little comic book I cobbled together with the great Dale Martin!

It Came From My Mailbox!: Samurai Slate

Samurai Slate in "Punctual" or "Time & Punishment"

Postmaster Keith O'Brien recently sent me his latest minicomic featuring his pun noir detective, Samurai Slate! Collaborating with a bundle of talented cartoonists (Including one of my favorites, Dale Martin), Keith created some delightful funnies with clever wordplay. And the cover drawing is by yours truly! Thanks, Keith!
