My Comic Book Collection: Bliss Alert

Bliss?

Imagine my surprise as I was reading Astro City #14 when I stumbled upon a possible Pam Bliss sighting! And is that Mr. Sharkipede (a.k.a. Nick Bliss) standing by her side?

From Astro City #14 (October 2014). Written by Kurt Busiek, art by Brent Eric Anderson, lettering and design by John G. Roshell and Jimmy Betancourt, colors by Alex Sinclair and Wendy Broome, and edited by Kristy Quinn. DC Comics

I made this past week's "Five for Friday" at The Comics Reporter!

Proof I've been blogging since 2002!

Hey, I'm not the only one! Pam Bliss also likes to draw on placemats, too!

Keith O'Brien shares his process on creating Samurai Slate comics!

Dale Martin continues to impress every week with Watusi the Talking Dog!

Sadly Tony Reynolds is wrapping things up for Ryan's Dad.

Never heard of Doug Michel's Monkey Squad One? Check it out now!

My old pal John Oak Dalton is still blogging!

And so is my theatre chum, Todd Terrell!

Just a shout out to one of my favorite blogs, Ivan G. Shreve Jr's Thrilling Days of Yesteryear!

It Came From My Mailbox!: Happiness

Apples and Oranges

This past week my mailbox kept giving me envelopes filled with some amazing work! Last Friday (September 27, of course) I was happy to find the latest digest from the amazing Pam Bliss, Apples and Oranges! Collecting some stories featuring her "Those Kids!" characters, reading A&O was like touching base with some old friends.

The Amazing CynicalMan #29

The fun continued the next day when I received an unexpected bundle of new issues of The Amazing Cynicalman from the king of the small press, Matt Feazell! Four issues containing some comic gold!

Watusi the Talking Dog #29

And finally yesterday the latest issue of Watusi the Talking Dog arrived. Receiving a comic book created by Dale Martin is always a wonderful thing and this issue continued Dale's incredible winning streak! As much as I grumble about my life from time to time, finding these treasures in my humble mailbox proves sometimes it can be a wonderful life!

Spacey, But Not Kevin Spacey

A couple of weekends ago, I journeyed to Columbus, Ohio for the big S.P.A.C.E. show with The Brothers Dalton (John and Eric) and I think I can safely say we all had a good time! The trip there and back seemed to race by with good conversation. We talked about public access television, microcinema, gaming, zines, and comic books. In other words, all of the important topics that truly matter in life!

Me and The Candid Cartoonist, Larned Justin

Once at the show, we encountered a giant room filled with a wide variety of creative folks and I quickly began to assemble a hardy bundle of swag that I'm still working my way through. It was great to see some of my small press friends (Larned Justin, Nik Havert) and to interact with some of my favorite cartoonists (Pam Bliss, Matt Feazell).

Me and one of my heroes, Pam Bliss

My goal for the show was to pick up all of the new material from some of my favorite creators and to sample the work of people I wasn't too familiar with. Looking through the pile of goodness I had purchased, I think my mission was accomplished (No banner necessary)!

While at the show, I also handed out copies of a digest containing some of the best Funky Idiots strips to the unsuspecting public. If you're interested in picking up a copy, just click HERE!

My thanks to John and Eric for letting me tagalong on their trip! Oh, and thanks for the pictures, too, John!

Factoids

I don't have a studio.

I'm enjoying The Shins' new album.

Captain America is supposed to be dead. Act surprised when he returns.

I still haven't finished my syndication package.

Nick Grove got a new haircut.

Eric Whetsel got a new job.

I recently got some cool comics from Dale Martin, Pam Bliss, Winter, Keith O'Brien, and Billy McKay.

I liked Little Miss Sunshine, but I wanted to like it more than I did.

A new showerhead can change your life.

I need to buy a ticket for The Grapes of Wrath.

I renewed my subscription to Entertainment Weekly.

I need to read more books.

I tried to make a peanut butter sandwich, but the bread was all moldy.

They only dedicate the yearbooks to the popular dead kids.
