Burying The Undead

Twilight of The Dead: It's finally happened! The zombies have left Those Funky Idiots after overstaying their welcome for the past few months! Of course, the zombies aren't really to blame for the strip screeching to a halt. No, that fault rests on this fat cartoonist's shoulders. What started out as a nice change of pace sadly became an exercise in futility and I have nobody to blame, but myself. Hopefully, with the undead out of the way, the strip can get back on track and I'll be updating it more regularly.

So: Did you run out and buy your iPhone? Yeah, me neither.

Factoids

I don't have a studio.

I'm enjoying The Shins' new album.

Captain America is supposed to be dead. Act surprised when he returns.

I still haven't finished my syndication package.

Nick Grove got a new haircut.

Eric Whetsel got a new job.

I recently got some cool comics from Dale Martin, Pam Bliss, Winter, Keith O'Brien, and Billy McKay.

I liked Little Miss Sunshine, but I wanted to like it more than I did.

A new showerhead can change your life.

I need to buy a ticket for The Grapes of Wrath.

I renewed my subscription to Entertainment Weekly.

I need to read more books.

I tried to make a peanut butter sandwich, but the bread was all moldy.

They only dedicate the yearbooks to the popular dead kids.

I Know It's Only Rock and Roll, but I Like It

I went to see Barenaked Ladies in concert last night with my TiVo man, Nick. Here's some numbered observations (Kids, count along!):

1. Barenaked Ladies really put on a highly entertaining show that showcased their everyman charm and kick ass nerd rock.

2. Two fat men should never sit side-by-side in skinny people seats. For a few minutes, I knew what it felt like to have a conjoined twin. Fortunately, we were able to move to some seats that provided plenty of space for two full-sized fellows, but I will always remember the time when Nick and I were brothers of the thigh.

3. Predominant smell at the concert: Peanut Butter

4. On the way to Cincinnati, we stopped off to eat at a place that I thought no longer existed. Believe it or not, a
Rax still grows in Indiana. I always believed that particular chain of roast beef eateries went out of business years ago, but it appears I was wrong. Stepping into Rax brought back memories of the late seventies/early eighties for me. The restaurant (Or, as Nick called it as he bussed his tray, a workaurant) was the exact duplicate to the one that once occupied Madison Street, right down to the little, white paper cups you pumped ketchup into. Truly a blast from the past.

5. No matter how close I am to my final destination, I will always make a wrong turn.

6. There is valet parking in Kentucky.

All Work and No Play

Work: I actually worked some major overtime this past week which makes me very happy. One of the sad things about Touchy Feely Fotos (and there are many!) is that the only time you can make real money is when you're working overtime and that doesn't happen very often. At least, in my department.

Alias: If I was a Harlem Globetrotter, I would call myself Meadowlark Cherry.

Pain: I had the misfortune of overhearing a couple of my fellow co-workers reenacting their favorite scenes from Madea's Family Reunion. Damn you, Tyler Perry!

As Seen on TV (Good): I just got done watching the season premieres of Veronica Mars and Lost (Thanks again, Nick!) and it was tasty TV fun. Looking forward to next week's episodes.

Who's The Boss?

Company Retreat: Well, I missed the big presidential briefing the other day at Touchy Feely, but I caught a glimpse of the prez as he and his entourage toured the plant, occasionally chuckling about something. It's always a delight to hear overpaid people laugh.

As Seen on TV (Good): The first two new episodes of The Office were very enjoyable, especially the episode concerning the unfortunate outing of Oscar. The kiss at the end was so painfully awkward and wrong on so many levels, but brilliantly funny. Definitely a show firing on all cylinders. Plus Jenna Fischer is a sweetie!

As Seen on TV (Feh): I wasn't too impressed by the second episode of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I enjoyed some of the dialogue and it does have a great cast, but it didn't really grab me. For some reason, I can't buy Amanda Peet as a network president and most of the scenes felt too stagy for my taste. I never got enthralled by Aaron Sorkin's The West Wing and I think that's going to be true about Studio 60, too.

Credit where Credit is Due: Special thanks to Nick Grove for being my TiVo man!
