Just Awards

I just got back from the Civies, the Muncie Civic Theatre’s annual award show. It was a lot of fun and you really should have come because there was plenty of great entertainment. Besides honoring some great performers from this past season, musical numbers from Godspell, Ragtime, Oklahoma, The Rocky Horror Show, and Assassins were featured (I participated in the Assassins number, natch). I also was honored to give out some certificates to all the actors who died on stage this past year. That list included Shaun Berkey, Ryan Lash, and Joe Skeen who was deemed to have the best death in the 2007-2008 season. Congrats to all of the dead!

It was fun to see everybody especially my fellow cast mates from Assassins (Edward Conley, Cathy Casazza, Cody Ricks, and Stevie Hahn). Besides performing in most of the numbers, Stevie also did a bang-up job directing everything. He’s one talented guy, that Stevie Hahn! Of course, I thought the highlight of the show was when he and the vivacious Cathy Casazza performed a Wicked parody number from Forbidden Broadway. Truly smashing.

I wasn’t nominated for anything, but Assassins won the Civie for best studio show so that was groovy! And I didn’t really go home empty-handed: I now own my burnt Santa Claus suit from Assassins. Can you believe they were going to throw it away? I’m honored to have it hanging in my closet.

Bob

A few weeks ago, Trent (aka “Bob”) of Bob’s Comic Castle asked me to come up with a new mascot for his business cards and I accepted the challenge! After some scribblings, I came up with a little costumed crusader named Bob. I liked the little guy and so did Trent so now he’s protecting Trent’s cards and will soon appear in an ad or two. T-shirts may be next. I be proud.

Showman

I went to rehearsal for God’s Favorite yesterday where the star of the production, Mr. Jeff Shull, and I went through our three scenes together. I thought things went rather well despite me sweating like a hobbled calf on the killing floor. I have forgotten that I often sweat a lot when I’m on stage. I guess that’s to be expected when a fat man moves about under hot lights and such. On the plus side, I’m inching my way towards being off book and I get to work with Jeff!

For those interested, God’s Favorite debuts on the Muncie Civic’s stage September 12 (Just three weeks away! Yikes!). It’s going to be a fun show, folks, so plan on coming!

On a bummer note, my other play, You Have the Right to Remain Dead, was postponed. This is rather sad since we were all set to go until a rogue church trustee and some behind-the-scenes church shenanigans put a kibosh to our efforts and really hurt a good friend of mine. Fortunately, the show will go on at a location yet to be determined in a couple months. More details as things get finalized!

Scene at a Chinese Resturant

I went to get some Chinese food with my dad and soon we were witnesses to some workplace strife as a delivery driver was berated by an angry Chinese woman. Apparently the driver went to the wrong address or something and the woman who ran the counter was not pleased. It was pretty tense for a few minutes as the woman yelled and the delivery boy tried to explain himself. He kept saying "Please don't yell at me" while the woman angrily punctuated her paragraphs of tirade with an exasperated "Oh, my goodness!". My back was to the commotion so I don't know if there were any angry gestures used as well.

Soon another co-worker became involved and quickly settled things down. Thankfully our food was then ready so we left before round two came into play.
