The Guys

The Guys

The courage and dedication of a group of firefighters on an indelible day in American history comes to the forefront in Anne Nelson's play based on the events of September 11, 2001. The Guys tells the story of Joan, an editor looking to find her bearings in the wake of the tragedy, and Nick, a fire captain struggling with the memories of the men he has lost. Together, they find the words to memorialize a group of ordinary guys... and a band of heroes... while finding comfort and strength in each other.

By turns wistful, comic and heartfelt, The Guys is a powerful piece of theatre and a bode of thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

The play will be performed at The Pub Theater at The Heorot (215 S. Walnut St., Muncie IN 47305) on September 8, 9 and 15th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for these performances are $10. All Active Emergency Personnel will be admitted free with proper identification.

Our final performance will be at The Murpah Shrine Club (3671 N. Shrine Dr., Muncie IN 47303) on September 16th at 7:30 p.m. A 6:00 p.m. dinner will be served at this performance only. Tickets for this performance are $15. All Active Emergency Personnel will be admitted free with proper identification. A portion of the tickets sales from this performance will go to the Muncie Firefighters Donation Fund.

The Guys is rated PG-13 for some language and adult themes. Please call (765) 741- 0591 to reserve your tickets today.

One of the joys of 2016 was playing Vladimir in Waiting for Godot. I hope I get the chance to do it again someday.

Adieu! Adieu!

Adieu! Adieu!

Last Friday night we bid adieu to Waiting for Godot. Thank you to all the kind folks who visited with us wayfarers in the bog and those champion people who gave up their time to volunteer with the production. I want to thank Taylor Watkins and Thomas Nelson III for all of their outstanding work, Wendy Carpenter for her mad makeup skills and to my brilliant cast mates (Barry McMullen, Bob Green, Sean Orlosky and Cody Lee) for making life in the wasteland such a rich and rewarding experience. Thank you to our prolific director Lysa Franklin for guiding us on our journey through the imagination of Beckett. I consider myself blessed to have done two shows with Lysa as my director this year and I hope there many more opportunities in the future!

And finally thank you Lysa and Barry for Think, Dog! Productions! It’s nice to know there is a place in Muncie, Indiana for challenging and experimental work that allows for risk and stretches the boundaries of theatre. May the Dog forever bark loud and mightily!

An icon of the Absurdist genre, described as “the quintessence of existentialism,” WfG is firstly one of the funniest and most absorbing pieces of drama we've yet to bring you!

The Guys by Anne Nelson

The Guys
Think, Dog! is teaming up with Valhalla on opening night for a special evening of entertainment on September 11, 2015.  Musical guests and a silent art auction will precede the performance of The Guys, a short play by Anne Nelson.

All proceeds from all shows will go to benefit our Muncie firefighters and first responders.  We'd like to thank especially Mayor Dennis Tyler and Muncie Professional Firefighters Local 1348 for helping us secure the rights for this powerful show.

The Guys is set in the weeks following September 11, 2001.  It tells the story of two people struggling to express grief and compassion in the midst of catastrophe.  The Chicago Tribune called it "a small jewel of a play."

We're thrilled to welcome guest director Tony Robinson, a guy who's done a little bit of everything in entertainment, from writing to radio to stand-up.  Welcome also to Tom Cherry and Katy Wolfe; new to our stage but not to our theater community!
