Shellfish and Proud of It!

Crabby

Grab those pencils! Sharpen those crayons! Upset that inkwell! It's time to get crabby! In honor of Patrick McDonnell's crusty crustacean, September 19, 2015 is "Draw Crabby Day"!

Patrick McDonnell is the creator of the wonderful comic strip, Mutts.

  • Not the most complicated character to try and draw. Maybe you'll get extra participation because of it.

  • I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

  • I was looking at Crabby online yesterday and seeing all the ideas I had come up with had already been used in Mutts.

  • I'm excited by it! And may even make it a "Draw Like Patrick McDonnell" day, too...

  • Keith- Yeah, that Patrick McDonnell dude is a pretty clever guy. Makes me crabby just thinking about it! ;)

  • Dale- Draw Like Patrick McDonnell day? Wish I thought of that! Hope you make it so!

  • Tom - I plan to try this one. Considering that a big part of Crabby's dialogue is @#$%^&, it's surprising how hard it is to come up with dialogue for a punch line.

A few years ago, when the Des Moines Register first started carrying the Mutts strip, I did draw Earl and Mooch in an approximation of McDonnell's style. If I can find the scans of those, I'll try uploading those as well.

  • Yesh! Thanks, Ivan! That's good news! I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
