My Weekend

My original plan for this weekend was to travel to Columbus, Ohio and to attend SPACE with my fellow comicsnaut, John Oak Dalton. However, good plans often fall apart and sadly that was the case this time around so I didn’t get a chance to spend some good money on a bundle of small press goodies. Which is a shame, but I’ll get over it. I do regret that I didn’t get a chance to hang out with John or to see some of my favorite small press folks like Pam Bliss, Matt Feazell, Nik Havert, Pat Lewis, and Suzanne Baumann. And I missed an opportunity to meet the legendary John Porcellino and pick up some of his King-Cat Comics. Major bummers all around.

Still by not going makes me more determined to attend next year and hopefully table once again and sell some new comics to the unsuspecting public! So to quote Charlie Brown, “Just wait until next year!!!”.

Being stuck at home this weekend did afford me a chance to see some junior capitalism at work. Some neighbor kids had set up a storefront (A couple lawn chairs at the edge of their driveway) and tried to sell some of their wares. Though I do admire their moxie, I have to question their business model. Their strategy involved waving colored notepapers whenever a car drives by and shouting “Bracelets!” at the top of their lungs. After the car departs, they go back to playing basketball. If I was feeling generous, I would have gladly tell them the key to any good business is “Location! Location! Location!”. And maybe it’s best to invest in some bigger signs.
