Today's Comic Haul (11/30/13)

Uatu the Watcher

FF #14

The Goon #44

The Walking Dead #117

Purchased at Bob's Comic Castle. Total cost: $10.14

Notes- Sort of a "ho hum" haul for today. Nothing really bad, but nothing that stood out either...There's a small tear on the cover of my issue of Walking Dead. Of course, I only noticed it once I got home...Hey, John Porcellino has a new issue of King-Cat coming out! That's always awesome news!...Two more issues and FF comes to a close. Where am I going to get my Bentley fix?...And, on that note, FF #14 is this haul's winner!

Uatu the Watcher was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Sunday's Comic Haul (11/24/13)

Jinkies

Afterlife with Archie #2

Harley Quinn #0

Scooby Doo Team-Up #1

The Green Team: Teen Trillionaires #3

Purchased at Bob's Comic Castle. Total cost: $22.28

Notes- A lot of Batman this time around in his many flavors! Is it sad I rather deal with a Batman that teams up with Scooby Doo than the one that occupies the New 52?...Green Team ends with #8. I have one more issue waiting in my pull pile and then I'm done...As I write this, it is now officially Thanksgiving. Happy Turkey Day, folks!...Winner of the haul? Batman Black and White with Scooby Doo Team-Up a close runner-up.

Fame! What a Feeling!

I liked something Sean Orlosky did on Facebook and this is my punishment. Here are five factoids about me. Since Mr. Orlosky will soon be rubbing elbows with Jane Powell and Robert Wagner on his TCM cruise, these factoids concern my own brushes with fame:

1. I was briefly a part of Tom "Eb from Green Acres" Lester's entourage. Judy Cole was his driver. I was his muscle (Okay, his flab). I think Mr. Lester thought Judy drove too fast. He later shared with us his impression of Pat Buttram. A nice man and a good time!

2. I saw Ed Begley Jr. eat a salad in Union City.

3. One of my prized possessions is a letter Charles Schulz sent me.

4. I won Carl Kasell's voice for my answering machine.

5. I once stood behind Jim Davis at a grocery store's checkout. Years later he sat behind me at a performance at the Muncie Civic Theatre. Despite our close relationship, he never did give me a job. What a bum!

And that's it! Go forth and prosper!

* This was originally a post on Facebook, but I liked it enough to post here, you lucky devils you!

Yesterday's Comic Haul (11/10/13)

Merv Pumpkinhead

Dial H #15

FF #13

The Fox #1

The Sandman: Overture #1

The Unwritten #55

Purchased at Bob's Comic Castle. Total amount: $20.26

Notes- Sorry to hear FF is drawing to a close. I guess it's understandable with Matt Fraction leaving and Mike Allred doing the new upcoming Silver Surfer title. FF has been a fun book that I look forward to and I'm going to miss Darla Deering and the Future Foundation kids...Still undecided if I'm going to follow the next volume of The Unwritten. It's been an iffy book for me the last year or so. I still enjoy the characters, but I keep leaving each new issue sitting in my pull pile for a bit before I purchase it. I guess the enthusiasm I had for the series has waned. It happens!...Was looking forward to The Fox. I like Dean Haspiel's art, but I wasn't blown away by the book. Still I'll give the next issue a shot...The winner for this week's haul? Sandman.

Merv Pumpkinhead was created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Malcolm Jones III. DC Comics

Pablo Picasso Takes His Wife to Bruner's to Get Liquored Up

Pablo Picasso Takes His Wife to Bruner's to Get Liquored Up

For the curious minded, Bruner's is a local restaurant in Muncie that typically caters to senior citizens. Recently, under new management, Bruner's got a liquor license which to me is like opening a bar in a nursing home.

Weekend of Carnage

God of Carnage

The second weekend of Muncie Civic Studio Theatre's production of God of Carnage wrapped up yesterday. It was an interesting run of shows. Friday night was our smallest audience with just four brave souls. Well, maybe "brave" isn't the right word because two of them walked out during the show's climax. On Saturday, things got pretty rocky when we skipped over a page or two. It wasn't a complete train wreck. We stayed on the tracks, but the engineer was slightly shaken. However, Sunday's performance rebounded with our best show of the weekend! I still think our show on the previous Saturday was our best one yet, but Sunday was a close runner-up.

We close next weekend and hopefully the momentum from Sunday's show will continue into this upcoming Friday and Saturday. We shall see!
